Dr. Popy Bora
Coordinator, Biopesticides
Dr Popy Bora is currently working as Junior Scientist in the Department of Plant Pathology, Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat, Assam Department of Plant Pathology). She obtained her M. Sc Degree in Plant Pathology (Bacteriology and Biocontrol) from AAU, Jorhat (Assam, India) in 2007 and joined subsequently in the rank of Assistant Professor in AAU, Jorhat (Assam, India) in 2008. Dr. Bora pursued her Ph.D. from AAU, Jorhat in 2020.
Research expertise and accomplishments: Dr. Bora has made significant contribution in developing some microbial biopesticides and identification of pesticide degrading microbes. Many of the technologies are being effectively used in farmers’ field and included in the package of practices of AAU, Jorhat for Assam, India. Her current research interests include: screening of endophytes for developing microbial bioformulations against diseases, microbial bioremediation of contaminated soils etc. Presently she is handling 3 DBT Sponsored Projects as Prinicipal Investigator and also involved with ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Project on Fruits as Lead Presenter.
Publications: Dr Bora is credited 20 Research papers, 01 Book, 6 Teaching manuals, 2 training manuals, 12 technical bulletins, 6 Book chapters, 23 Popular articles, 22 abstracts) in different peer reviewed international/national journals, besides 11 oral presentations in national/international conferences/symposiums/seminars in countries, expert in 20 TV/Radio programmes and 20 farmers trainings.
Coordinating academic events: Dr Bora has served as Organizing Secretary in a National Webinar on Recent Advances in Disease Management of Banana (July 4, 2020) National Webinar on “Microbial Biopesticides: Next generation preparedness” organized by DBT- NECAB and Department of Plant Pathology, AAU, Jorhat on July 2, 2021 as Organizing Secretary.

Courses designed and teaching: Dr Bora is engaged in teaching (Plant Pathology) at undergraduate and post-graduate level and guided 2 M.Sc. studentsis currently guiding 4 M. Sc. students as major advisor. Presently she is guiding 2 M.Sc. students and 2 PhD students as Major advisor. She has also served as External Thesis Evaluator and External Examiner for Comprehensive Viva voce in different Universities.
