DBT-NECAB, Assam Agricultural University Celebrates World Environment Day 2026 with Sapling Plantation Drive

Jorhat, Assam | June 5, 2026The DBT–North East Centre for Agricultural Biotechnology (DBT-NECAB) at Assam Agricultural University celebrated World Environment Day 2026 with a vibrant sapling plantation programme at its campus, reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and green initiatives.
The event was graced by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Assam Agricultural University, Prof. Dipjyoti Rajkhowa, who actively participated in the plantation drive by planting saplings alongside faculty members, researchers, and students.
The programme was also attended by the Centre Director of DBT-NECAB, Prof. Bidyut Kumar Sarmah, along with teaching and non-teaching staff, research scholars, and students, all contributing enthusiastically to the initiative.
Following the plantation programme, the Vice-Chancellor visited various laboratories of DBT-NECAB, where he reviewed ongoing research activities and infrastructure facilities. During the visit, he engaged in a constructive and positive discussion with the Director, scientists, and faculty members, appreciating their efforts and encouraging further innovation in agricultural biotechnology and allied research areas.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in tackling environmental challenges and emphasized the role of academic and research institutions in promoting sustainable practices.
The plantation drive not only enhanced the green cover of the campus but also served as a reminder of the importance of environmental conservation and ecological balance. The programme concluded with a pledge by all participants to contribute actively towards building a greener and more sustainable future.
