On 10th April 2025, the Department had the privilege of hosting an insightful alumni talk by Dr. Shahin Sharif Ali, a Senior Scientist in the Collection Department at the American Type Culture Collection (ATCC), Gaithersburg, Maryland. The seminar, titled “Microbial Innovations: How Tiny Organisms Are Solving Big Problems,” was held at 4.0 PM in the Seminar Hall of the DBT-NECAB New Building.

Dr. Shahin, a proud alumnus of the department, delivered an engaging session that shed light on the fascinating world of microbial innovation. One of the key highlights of his talk was the emerging promise and applications of microbial protein as an alternative food source. He discussed how microbial protein not only presents a sustainable solution to global food security challenges but also opens up exciting avenues for research and development in the field of biotechnology.
