DBT-NECAB, Assam Agricultural University Hosts Distinguished DBT, GoI Delegations!

On June 23rd, 2024, Assam Agricultural University (AAU) in Jorhat welcomed esteemed delegations from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, to evaluate and monitor the progress of several DBT-funded projects at the North East Centre for Agricultural Biotechnology (DBT-NECAB).

🧬 The university had the privilege of hosting eminent members of the a high-level Technical Evaluation Committee from the DBT, GoI including Co-Chairman-DBT-NER-TEC, Director, PAU, Chairman-DBT-NER-TEC, DBT-Official, Dr. Suraksha S. Diwan, and other eminent team members. The visit began with a warm reception at DBT-NECAB followed by a tea session before attending a detailed presentation by Prof. Bidyut Kumar Sarmah, Director of DBT-NECAB. He highlighted the impressive progress, scope and achievements of their ongoing DBT-funded projects and addressed the committee's questions with depth and clarity. This session provided an overview of AAU’s pioneering research efforts aimed at improving agricultural productivity and sustainability in the North-East region.

🌿 Facility Tour:
After a delightful lunch, the delegation embarked on an extensive tour of the DBT-NECAB facilities:

* Farm Visit: The guests explored AAU’s experimental farm where innovative agricultural practices and trials are conducted.
* PhytoTron Facility: This cutting-edge facility, crucial for controlled environment research, was a highlight of the tour, showcasing its role in studying plant responses to various environmental conditions.
* Advanced Laboratories: The visitors observed the high-tech laboratories equipped with the latest biotechnological instruments. These labs support AAU’s groundbreaking research in genomics, molecular biology, and bioinformatics. The showcase of products and prototypes demonstrated the practical applications and potential for commercialization of AAU’s research outputs. The guests provided valuable feedback and recommended avenues for further improvement and collaboration.

The committee expressed their satisfaction with the Center's achievements and offered strategic guidance to ensure the future sustainability of DBT-NECAB. Following a delightful lunch, the committee toured the facilities and observed the innovative products developed under DBT projects. Their visit concluded with appreciation for AAU’s contributions to agricultural research and biotechnology.
