DBT NECAB, Programme on Biopestices organizes 7 days Hands on Training On “Mass production of Microbial Biopesticide as an Agri-based Commercial venture”

The DBT-North East Centre for Agricultural Biotechnology (DBT-NECAB), Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat has organized a Seven (7) day “Hands on training” programme on “Mass production of Microbial Biopesticide as an Agri-based Commercial venture” , inaugural function of which was held on Monday (May, 27). The hands on training conducted through “Programme on Biopesticides” was inaugurated by Dr. Bidyut Kumar Sarmah, Director, DBT-NECAB. With his insightful speech, Dr. Sarmah inspired the attendees by outlining the current state of biopesticides in the context of organic farming on a national and international scale and outlining potential future developments. Additionally, he reminded everyone of the need of promoting the production of organic tea, particularly among small-scale growers, by using innovative, locally produced biopesticides and biofertilizers. Dr Sarmah also highlighted some success stories of the effective microbial bioformulations. The participants were briefed by Dr.Popy Bora, the Course Director about the objectives of the course. Ten participants shortlisted among 112 applicants representing different agricultural backgrounds and agro climatic zones of Assam, mostly engaged in organic farming took part in the training course. Dr. Bora was greatly aided by DBT, GoI’s cooperation in being able to regularly provide this kind of training. Dr. Palash Dev Nath, Head, Department of Plant Pathology also highlighted the necessity of such training for quality bioinput supply in Assam, The participants expressed their enthusiasm and interest for the training program during an interactive session conducted after the inaugural programme, and they eagerly engaged in the practical lessons thereafter.
